Practice Expectations

The Calgary Swordfish encourage and RESPECT the athletic endeavors of our members and we have never threatened or punished our members for participation in other activities.  On a provincial level, we promote summer swimming as the perfect sport to provide summer conditioning to athletes who have chosen another sport as their main interest.  Dave Johnson, Canada's national coach, had his children swim with our club precisely for the reason the kids can do a variety of sports including summer swimming until they are mature enough to pick one sport an commit to it.

Our experience is that the pool will regularly have 5% of our members attend every practice and approximately 60% attend nightly.  Parents with work commitments will get their kids to the pool as soon as they can, and often not on time.  We RESPECT the effort parents put in, not only to get their kids to the pool, but volunteer time for meets and fund raising.

We look forward to your motivational and inspirational leadership in changing our participation in all practices and particularly on Fridays, which are often poorly attended especially on meet weekends.
